Michael L. Bell is a long-time resident of Beaufort County with extensive experience in community planning, development, and educational administration. He spent many years working with the Town of Hilton Head Island, where he played a key role in community planning and development, and later provided administrative and support services to both public and private school districts.Among his many accomplishments is his significant involvement in the early analytical, planning, and administrative work of the Town of Hilton Head Island. In this capacity, he helped establish processes, ordinances, and data systems that contributed to improved development control and enhanced emergency services response
Mr. Bell most recently retired from his role as Data Administrator and Student Information Systems (SIS) Manager for Lowcountry Montessori School, a position he held from 2017 until retirement. In addition, he brings a broad range of entrepreneurial experience in logistics, development consulting, and e-commerce.
A dedicated community leader, Mr. Bell is a graduate of Leadership Hilton Head (Class of 1987). He was first appointed to the Bluffton Township seat on the Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) Board in 1991 by then-Governor Carroll Campbell and has served continuously since that time.
A native of Baxley, Georgia, Mr. Bell is an honor graduate of Appling County High School and Albany State University. He also attended Webster University. He currently serves as a Deacon at Central Oak Grove Baptist Church on Hilton Head Island.
Mr. Bell holds the distinction of being the longest-serving member of the BJWSA Board, the youngest individual ever appointed to serve as Chairman at the time of appointment, and the first African American to serve as Chairman.
